This past year, I’ve switched both of my dogs over to raw dog food and have noticed such amazing changes! I personally feed my dogs a blend of Primal and Ziwi Peak plus a tiny bit of Open Farm Kibble (for the budget, as Kibble can get expensive). Since making the switch, I’ve noticed they have more energy, better coats, and fewer allergies.
It’s very interesting because a lot of vets will argue that a raw diet is not healthy, and they’ll always quote that grain-free diets can cause heart disease based on an FDA study. The thing about this study though, is they studied a bunch of low-quality kibble diets. Additionally, vets continue to recommend awful brands like Hill’s and Purina which are full of artificial ingredients. Plus, the high temperatures Kibble is cooked in cause their food to be carcinogenic. There are so many reasons why most kibble is SO bad (I do think Open Farm is a good brand), but this post is all about the benefits of feeding raw. (PS- if you really are concerned about the grains, you’re better off just giving them a side home-cooked grains, than the low-quality grains in most kibble). If you want to learn more about the dangers of Kibble, be sure to watch the documentary Pet Fooled.
Okay, with that being said, here are the benefits:
- Shinier, healthier, skin and coat
- Weight control (my pup Ziggy was so overweight, and is now healthy)
- Smaller, harder, stools
- Older dogs have been reported to have better mobility
- Higher energy and stamina
- Better digestion
- Fresher breath and cleaner teeth
- Less allergy symptoms
- Improved behavior
- Better appetite
With this being said, what do you feed your dog/puppy? Let me know in the comments below.
