If your dog is getting antsy indoors when the weather is too HOT or TOO cold outside, don’t worry I gotchu, I am going to cover how to exercise your pup indoors.
Number One is the Flirt Pole
The flirt pole is one of my FAVORITE ways to exercise a dog indoors. It’s basically a big cat toy. You can wave it around and your dog will get exercise as he/she tries to chase the toy at the end of the rope!!
Number Two is a Game of Fetch
Now your dog might not be able to run AS far indoors, but if you have a fairly open area, you can play a condensed version of fetch indoors. Just be careful there isn’t anything fragile around that your dog can knock over.
Your THIRD option is a game of TUG OF WAR
The big caveat with playing tug of war is to make sure you ask for check-ins from your dog throughout the game. What do I mean by check-ins? A simple look at me after your pup drops the toy would be PERFECT.
Your FOURTH option is a game of CATCH
When your pup has to catch an object midair, they are not only jumping using their legs and their core, but they are also being MENTALLY stimulated as they have to work on their technique of catching. Once again, just be sure there isn’t anything your dog can knock over since you are indoors after all.
Last but not least…Your FIFTH option is….
BRAIN DRAIN EXERCISES
We tend to think that cardio is the most IMPORTANT thing when it comes to wearing out your dog, but mental stimulation is JUST as important. If you’ve ever taken a final in college, or any challenging test, you know that you’re completely exhausted after.
I have a full video on brain drain exercises right here, but some examples are puzzle toys, snuffle mats, kongs, and even teaching your pup a new trick. In addition to my video, check out my Amazon Store with my favorite brain drain exercise toys.
