Does your dog have runny poop? In this video, I’ll give you 3 remedies to help firm up your dog or puppy’s stool. It may be a crappy topic, but it’s an important one for your dog’s health, so stay tuned.
#1 – know the difference between soft stool and diarrhea
These two ARE similar, but there are differences. Diarrhea will be mainly fluid, if not all and you won’t be able to pick it up. Soft stool does have a form, but it’s just soft, sometimes extremely soft.
If your dog has diarrhea, I recommend you take your dog to the vet, as this could be a sign of illness. On the flip side, soft stools are usually a result of a poor diet, lack of fiber, or feeding your dog an ingredient that they are sensitive to.
Once you’ve recognized that your dog, does in fact have soft stools rather than diarrhea, move onto the following steps.
Step 2: Add Pumpkin to Your Dog’s Diet
I personally buy my dog’s dehydrated pumpkin at my local holistic pet store; however, you can buy any pumpkin as long as there are no fillers, sugar or additives and it’s organic.
For me, I find canned pumpkin can get a bit messy, so one of my favorite products is Super Snouts GI Supplement, which has dried pumpkin and a prebiotic, that you can sprinkle over their food. I’ve included a link to Amazon below.
Any time I am watching a dog with runny poop, the super snouts firms up 80% of dogs stool within 1-2 days, and I truly believe this is a great product. I also love that they add in the prebiotic which is beneficial to your dog’s gut.
Step 3: Probiotics
The soft stool can be an indication that your dog’s gut bacteria is out of balance. Without getting too technical, Probiotics give your dog a good dose of that “good” bacteria which will help with your dog’s digestion and firm up your dog’s stool.
Step 4: Check into the quality of your food!
Seriously, a lot of dog food is, unfortunately, PRETTY crappy. In fact, I am currently in the process of becoming a certified pet food nutritionist, and I’ve learned that pet food manufacturers can purchase meat from rendering plants, which can include Road Kill, Euthanized Pets, and Zoo Animals, as well as other things.
Higher quality dog food IS more expensive, but whether you’re a human or an animal, it’s an investment in your health to spend a little bit more money on food. You can also make your own, but of course, this will take more time.
After I finish this certification, I will definitely create a WHOLE ENTIRE video on the pet food industry and what you can do about it.
